I'm a painter living and working in the pacific northwest. I'm really drawn to old signs, neon arrows and retro architecture. Recently, I have been exploring the world of book illustration. My background includes education at the Art Institute of Seattle, Seattle Pacific University, Gage Academy and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College. When I'm not painting I am raising three great kids, playing music in our family band, A Total Fiasco www.atotalfiasco.com and going on dates with my beautiful wife.
I really love La Belle Époque era of painting. But my work has more in common with the pop art of the 50's and 60's. So on the one hand, I really love Monet. But I also love Hopper, Sargent, Vermeer, Warhol, Jasper Johns, Pollock. The book work is inspired by Roald Dahl, Shel Silverstein, Jim Henson and Bugs Bunny.
My preference is oil paint but because of the toxicity I moved over to acrylics a few years ago. I tend to do my morning sketches in either gouache, watercolor or pen & ink. I love to work large on canvas but since I've been recently focused on original book illustrations, I have been painting with acrylics on 9" x 12" Bristol paper.
I have been the fortunate recipient of artist residencies both in the USA and abroad. Every now and then I land a nice corporate commission and have had a regular stream of private commissions on the easel as well.
